RM Sotheby’s stages “real” racing experience

26 September 2016

Visitors to RM Sotheby’s London sale in Battersea Park were treated to a “real racing” experience by Classic Race Simulators.

When guests weren’t perusing the 87 examples of the industry’s finest classic cars, worth in excess of £21,000,000, they were able to take advantage of four state-of-art racing simulators.

The software enables users to compete in historic cars dressed in authentic period bodywork and a range of evocative liveries, either racing against the clock or one another.

The simulators feature replica liveries inspired by Formula 1 cars of the 1960s, including those reminiscent of iconic Lotus, Ferrari, Eagle and McLaren designs.

Classic Race Simulators feature a handmade fibreglass body, a full nose cone with mesh grille, adjustable pedal mounts and seat, a stainless steel roll bar, a Cursive Simulation designed triple screen mount and bespoke mountings for controls. Each simulator utilises the celebrated rFactor 2 racing simulation software from Image Space Inc to create the most realistic driving experience.

Jim Hill, manager at Classic Race Simulators, said: “Our simulators are perfect for a high-end motoring environment such as the RM Sotheby’s sale. They fitted in with the fantastic collection of cars on display at the auction and visitors were really able to enjoy test their racing skills over the two preview days of the sale.”

Greg Anderson, general manager at RM Sotheby’s, added: “Classic Race Simulators did a great job of putting on a show for our clients. This isn’t something we’ve done before but it’s good to be able to explore new ways of enhancing the visitor experience at our auctions. The simulators are very good-looking machines and the racing experience is incredible fun.”

Classic Race Simulators can provide bespoke, custom made simulators for private buyers and corporate occasions. They have recently been used by JET to provide captivating entertainment at its Silverstone Classic Hub, where the company provided 10 of its 1960s replica F1 race simulators and saw more than a thousand guests give it a go.
