Equipe GTS announces 3 Hour Classic Relay
Equipe GTS, a series designed for pre-1966 sports cars with engine sizes spread across five classes from under 1150 cc to 2700 cc, is launching a new, long-distance race.
Inspired by the ’60s Sebring races in the US, Equipe GTS sees a mix of GT, GTS and Touring Cars go head to head in a spectacular shoot out.
The new 3 Hour event will be held on Saturday 30 September 2017 at the AMOC Racing event on the Silverstone National circuit.
Entry criteria for the Classic Relay has been extended to include up to 3-litre pre-‘66 GT and GTS cars, and 2-litre Touring and Saloon Cars. All vehicles must be running to FIA appendix K and on Dunlop historic tyres.
Equipe GTS will be at the forthcoming Historic Motorsport International event at ExCel London (23 to 26 February), where race organiser John Pearson will official launch the new event at the HMI Conference.
To enter, competitors will need a team of two to four cars, with only one car allowed on track at any time. Team strategy, and car and driver changes, will play an important role in the results, while a handicap system will ensure a close finish for all classes.
Pearson said: “There is a gap in the market for a longer distance team event for smaller engine cars. The Equipe Classic Relay will combine closely matched small-engined FIA cars in multiple car teams ensuring that no driver or car has to do the entire race”
Long distance team and relay events are well established and known for strong camaraderie, which embodies the spirit of the Equipe GTS series.
Equipe GTS Partner Rob Cull added: “It will give the opportunity to be part of a team race without the stress put on one car with multiple drivers, such as Le Mans or the Spa Six Hour.”
Duncan Wiltshire, race director for the AMOC Racing, concluded: “We are really excited about this race, it is a fantastic innovation and are delighted to be hosting it on our Silverstone AMOC race event.”
