Aston Martin AMR1 at Race Retro auction

20 December 2016

An ex-works Aston Martin AMR1 Group C sportscar will headline Silverstone Auctions’ competition car sale at Race Retro 2017.

Chassis AMR1/05 has a pre-sale estimate of £500,000 – £550,000 and is just one of four cars built.

“This car represents a major piece of motor racing heritage with unquestionable provenance, superb build quality, and with a proven ability to win,” said Nick Whale, managing director at Silverstone Auctions.

It is presented in its original Mobil 1 livery, as well as with a running spares package including wheels, jacking tools, data loaded laptop, fuel churns, wheel braces and spare brakes.

Despite only seeing three races as part of the factory Aston Martin team the AMR1/05 was sold in 1990 and regularly raced in historic Group C and IMSA races around the world. One particular international highlight for the factory race was its second place finish at a support race for the 24 hours of Le Mans in 2014.

“Group C racing stands out to this day as one of the most sensational and spectacular eras in the history of motorsport,” added Whale, “this car would be an ideal entrant to the Classic Le Mans race in 2017 and historic Group C racing championship.”
